Staff at Hornchurch hospital are record breakers
HARD working staff at a hospital have made it into the Guinness World Records for the most number of people to polish a car at the same time.
Eighty five people at St George’s Hospital in Sutton’s Lane, Hornchurch got scrubbing for the record breaking attempt on Friday November 19 as part of The Children In Need Appeal.
Organiser Ellen Henriques said: “We are all extremely happy that we’ve been able to break the world record whilst raising money for needy children.
“I would like to thank everyone who has donated money and those who have been involved in making today happen.”
The event saw the staff squeezing around a Formula Brands single seater racer to polish it raising a total of �461.13..

The Guinness rule states that everyone taking part needed to polish the car for a minimum of one minute with everyone touching the car at the same time.
There to verify the records were guests of honour Mayor Havering Cllr Pam Light and Lord Lieutenant Colonel Mark Bryant.

The car that was used for the event was donated for the day by Brands Hatch Circuit and also contributing towards the event was local firm Countess Marquees who provided a marquee to hold the event in.
Children in Need started with a BBC radio broadcast appeal in 1927 and has been helping disadvantaged children in the UK ever since. The first televised appeal was in 1955 presented by Matthew Corbett and Sooty and last year was the 30th BBC Children in Need Appeal – where a record breaking �39 million was raised.
