Hornchurch boss happy with win at Met Police

Last week’s midweek trip to watch Met Police paid off for Hornchurch boss Jimmy McFarlane.

McFarlane saw them beat fellow Ryman Premier Division newcomers Leatherhead, before second-half goals from Martin Tuohy and Jo Flack led Urchins to a 2-0 success at Imber Court at the weekend.

Victory allowed Hornchurch to end a three-game losing streak and McFarlane said: “They’re not a big side, but they’re a good side and I think they will do okay.

“They had more possession than us, but we were more dangerous and totally dominated in the second half.

“It all went to plan. It was a good performance and we thoroughly deserved the win.”

Urchins gave a debut to goalkeeper Joe Woolley - and have since released Darren Behcet - but he was largely unemployed as the defence held firm.

The visitors had to wait until the 72nd minute to break the deadlock through Martin Tuohy, though, and Jo Flack secured the points soon after with a second goal after coming off the bench.

McFarlane added: “It was quite nerve-wracking as we were deperate for a result, but hopefully it will get us back on track.”
