A Rush Green schoolboy lent a hand – and some green fingers – to top Havering councillors as he planted a tree in Romford’s newest park.
Six-year-old Alex Daniel was given the honour after winning a competition to name the open space, which has been created as part of the “Reflections” housing development in Oldchurch Road. He was accompanied by Mayor of Havering Cllr Lynden Thorpe and council leader Cllr Michael White.
Michael O’Leary of building firm Taylor Wimpey said Alex’s choice of Jubilee Park was “far and away the most popular” with the judging panel.
He added: “We were delighted to welcome Alex to Reflections for the very important job of planting the very last tree at Jubilee Park.”
Alex and his school have been rewarded with book tokens.
