Organisers of a Royal British Legion branch, held a special event to say thank you to all the volunteers who helped raise cash for this year’s poppy appeal.

Terry Minshaw and Wendy Neal, poppy appeal organisers at the Royal British Legion, High Street, Hornchurch branch held a cake and coffee morning on Wednesday, last week.

Volunteers have so far raised more than £43,000 and donations are still being counted.

Mrs Minshaw said: “We have had people collecting in stores, in the street and activities such as jogging events and even a parachute jump.

“The appeal is a big ask with volunteers giving up a lot of their precious time especially at this time of the year.

“Without them there would be no appeal and we would not be able to raise funds for the British Legion.

“Wendy and I would also like to thank the residents of Hornchurch of their most generous support.”
