Police have confirmed that a break-in took place at Roomes department store in the early hours of this morning.

Commuters making their way to Upminster station were shocked to discover broken glass and hangars littering the ground outside the Branfill Road side entrance to the popular department store on Station Road.

It appeared as though the shop’s security shutters had been wedged open to allow the thieves to break in.

A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan police confirmed: “Police in Havering Borough are investigating a burglary at a department store on Station road, Upminster.

“The burglary happened at around 04:10hrs on Monday, 16 May when around four suspects have forced entry into the store by bending the shutter, then smashing the glass door.”

The police also confirmed that a number of items of clothing had been stolen, but that at this early stage there were no suspect descriptions and no arrests had been made.

Any witnesses or anyone with any information can contact police in Havering via 101 and quoting ref 5408157/16. To give information anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or at
