Kind-hearted volunteers helped to give a community space a face lift.

Romford Autistic Support Group (RAGS) is preparing to officially reopen after its base in Victoria Road, Romford was recently given a makeover.

The volunteers, from the HAVCO Volunteer Centre transformed two activity rooms at the charity’s base using paint and decorating tools donated from B&Q in Gallows Corner.

Among the volunteers was Alan Ruskin, 50 and Barry Hockley, 20 who are both skilled decorators and painters.

The charity for young people with autism recently moved into its current location, but the building needed a lick of paint before it could officially open.

A call for volunteers was sent out and within a week a team of volunteers had already come forward to help.

Havco Volunteer Network was set up last year to help build community spirit.

Anyone interested in joining the network, should email volunteering@havco.org.uk.
