Martin wants clear heads

Romford boss Paul Martin is hoping his players behave themselves tonight (Friday).

With a return to Ryman One North action at Leyton tomorrow growing ever more likely after recent milder weather, Martin wants his men to be ready.

He said: “Hopefully the boys are not going to be out on the razzle Friday night!

“We’re hoping the Leyton game will be on and I’m looking forward to getting back into it.

“It will be a heavy pitch, a bit boggy, but we’ve got to go there and get the three points coming off the back of a defeat.”

Boro have not even been able to train since their 2-0 home defeat against leaders East Thurrock on December 14, but were hoping to get together last night to blow away the cob-webs.

“It’s like starting the season again really,” added Martin, who will be without Adam and Danny Rafis, as well as Richard Oxby at the Hare & Hounds.

“When there’s no football on, there’s not much to talk about is there, but we’re more than capable of getting back on track.”

Hornchurch visit Wealdstone in the Premier Division, looking to extend an nine-game unbeaten streak in the league.

And chairman Colin McBride is hoping they can get back on track after the big freeze.

He said: “It’s criminal having to go to Wealdstone on New Year’s Day, when we’ve got Billericay and Aveley up the road.

“It defies logic really, but the fixtures haven’t been that kind to us this year.

“We’ve had Tuesday night games at Lowestoft, Hastings and Horsham, but it must be hard [to arrange the fixtures].

“We’ve only got two home games in January, which is over a five-week spell, but hopefully we’ll crack on now.”
