A 16-year-old boy from Romford was conned out of £100 after trying to buy a monkey over the internet.

The teen, of Walton Road, believed he was paying the money to an address in the Central African country of Cameroon as a deposit for the primate.

But when he was sent a request for a further £200 as payment for shipping, he refused to pay and contacted the seller – who wouldn’t refund the deposit.

Police are investigating an allegation of fraud by false representation.
