A ROMFORD schoolboy who has used the internet to help others beat the bullies has been honoured with a top award.

Carl Merritt, from Royal Liberty School, in Upper Brentwood Road, was handed the Diana Award at a special assembly on Monday.

The 16-year-old underwent school-based anti-bullying training, but then took it upon himself to mentor and advise young victims throughout the country online Julia Deery, headteacher, said “We at Royal Liberty School are extremely proud of Carl. We hope this award will encourage him to continue his work and that he will inspire other young people to become involved with their community.”

The award - named in memory of Diana Princess of Wales - is presented to youngsters for their outstanding and selfless contribution to their community.

Guest of honour Andrew Rosindell, MP for Romford, praised Carl for showing that young people can make a difference to the world.
