Pupils took a step back in time to play iconic roles made popular in Alan Parker’s 1976 hit film Bugsy Malone.

Drama students from St Edward’s Church of England School, London Road, Romford, donned costumes reminiscent of infamous gangster Al Capone and speakeasy boss Fat Sam.

The school’s drama teacher, Sarah Allen, said the pupils worked extremely hard on the show, two weeks ago.

“It really brings them together,” she said.

“So many different year groups that don’t usually mix get to have fun and work together.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity and a huge confidence boost.”

Oscar Newman, 14, who played Fat Sam added: “I really enjoyed it.”
