Pupils held a special afternoon assembly to present the Havering Mayor with £700.

The generous act by youngsters from St Edward’s Church of England Primary School, Havering Drive, Romford, followed a visit they had made to the mayor’s chambers at Havering Town Hall.

Having enjoyed the visit, the school voted to support one of mayor Cllr Philippa Crowder’s charities and chose Havering Mind.

The school’s finance assistant, Meena Teotia said: “The children enjoyed their visit to the town hall council chamber and mayor’s parlour very much last term.”

Youngsters raised the cash by collecting donations from their parents and presentedthe £715.91 to the mayor and Ciaran White from the charity.

Both thanked the pupils for their efforts.
