Romford Pictures: Havering’s proud brewing history explored in new exhibition
PUBLISHED: 09:00 19 January 2014
The proud history of brewing in the borough is revealed in a new museum exhibition.
Mine’s a Pint: Ind Coope and Havering’s Brewing Heritage explores hundreds of years of beer and beer-making, from medieval ale houses to modern micro-breweries, and features items donated and loaned by residents.
It was opened at Havering Museum in Romford by author and former brewery employee, Patricia Pound.
Mrs Pound said: “It gave me tremendous pleasure to launch the exhibition and see the work which has been done by the exhibition team.
“Both my husband Birger and myself worked in the brewery, which was like a big family, so it was wonderful to have had the opportunity to open the exhibition.”
The High Street museum is holding talks to complement the displays which run until March 20.
Speakers include Mrs Pound, Roland Kannor, from the Brentwood Brewing Company and historian Brian Evans. There is also a family brewing day from 11.30am on Saturday.
