Would you let someone throw a bucket of freezing ice cold water over you, in the name of charity? Well this group of gym goers did as they were nominated by someone with Motor Neurone Disease to take on the ice bucket challenge.
Darrell Wright, 52, of Belgrave Avenue, Gidea Park, nominated 13 members of Everyone Active gym, of Gooshays Drive, Harold Hill, as well as staff members to have a bucket of icy water chucked over them, to raise awareness for MND Association.
He said: “They were all up for the challenge and did really well to endure the freezing cold water. It was a lot of fun and they were all great sports for doing it.”
Darrell was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2006 and has since been dedicated to making more people aware of the disease. He said: “When I was diagnosed I was devastated. For quite a while I just locked myself away but then I joined the gym and started to get back out in the world again.
“If you get cancer, you can have treatment and it can be cured. But if you get Motor Neurone Disease, there is no cure and that is why people should try and donate as much as they can to the cause.”
The event raised about £90 for the charity and Darrell hopes money will continue to be donated.
