Creatures great and small brought smiles to children’s faces during a special open day held at the weekend.

Visitors got up close to some of the ponies, pigs and cows which live at Wellgate Community Farm in Collier Row Road, Romford.

There were also live sheep shearing and animal feeding demonstrations, as well as games, pony rides and craft stalls at the event on Saturday.

All money raised from the fun day will go towards the upkeep of the farm, which was set-up in 1982 on wasteland to provide educational and recreational activities for the local community.

The farm, which is also home to a host of other farm and domestic animals including goats, chickens, ducks, rabbits and even a snake, has a horticultural plot and a classroom.
