Headaches for Boro boss Martin

Romford manager Paul Martin is facing up to the loss of three strikers in the space of 48 hours.

Kurt Smith limped out of Saturday’s goalless draw against Ryman Division One high-flyers Brentwood with what turned out to be a broken fibia.

And Nick Reynolds suffered a freak accident at home that evening, breaking two fingers which required him to have surgery on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Adrian Clifton has left the club to join Premier Division side Billericay, who have agreed to host Boro in a friendly at New Lodge tomorrow (Wednesday).

Martin said: “That’s three very good players gone in the space of 48 hours.

“Kurt took a rash tackle from the full-back but hobbled about for a bit, then took another whack.

“Then he went to cross the ball and collapsed in a heap. It’s a massive blow.

“Nick fell at home and snapped two fingers. He dislocated them and his knuckle and had the op on Sunday to have them pinned and plated. It’s probably worse than Kurt’s.

“They will both be out for six to eight weeks at least. Nick’s got to go back to hospital in six weeks to have the first pin taken out and see if it has set.

“We’ll give a few of the boys some minutes at Billericay, though. We’ve got five or six who need a good run-out and it’s hard not having a reserve side.

“Chris Sullivan will get a game and hopefully we’ll get his registration sorted out for Saturday.

“If I’d stayed a bit fitter I might’ve played, especially with it being at Billericay’s ground. But I’ll stick to what I’m doing!”
