ROMFORD was this week celebrating the news that Prince William is to marry long-term girlfriend Kate Middleton next year.

William, 28, proposed to Kate, also 28, while on holiday in Kenya in October.

On Tuesday Clarence House announced the news, saying: “The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton.

“The wedding will take place in the spring or summer of 2011, in London. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course.

“Prince William has informed the Queen and other close members of his family.

“Prince William has also sought the permission of Miss Middleton’s father.”

William, second in line to the throne, met his fiancé while studying at St Andrews University in Fife. They have been dating for eight years.

Romford MP Andrew Rosindell, a proud royalist, said he was “thrilled” at the news, adding: “It’s a wonderful occasion for them and for the Commonwealth.

“He is our future king. And it will be nice to have a celebration and lift everyone in Britain’s spirits at a time when we’ve been down in the doldrums.”

Prince Charles reportedly said he was “thrilled, obviously”, joking: “They’ve been practising long enough.”
