Barry looking to maintain momentum

Romford captain Jack Barry wants his side to maintain momentum in Ryman One North at Waltham Abbey tonight.

Boro are unbeaten in their last three league matches, having followed 2-0 wins over Chatham and Aveley with a goalless draw at high-flying Witham at the weekend.

And Barry is hoping Abbey’s recent inactivity works in Romford’s favour as they look to climb further up the table.

He said: “Waltham Abbey is another terrible pitch So I don’t expect much football to be played on the floor, but I know they haven’t played in a while so they could be rusty.

“I hope we can snatch the three points from there because we are on a good run of form at the minute and that would move is up in the table with a few more games in hand on the other teams.

“The important thing is to win our games in hand to start moving us up the table.”

Boro went five games without a game from December 14 onwards, due to a string of postponements for waterlogged pitches.

But after losing to Harlow on their delayed return to action on January 22, they have claimed seven out of nine points.

Barry added; “The Aveley game was a really good game for us. It was just what we needed having not played for a few weeks.

“It was a good test for us and I was happy we came out of it with three points, which we deserved. I thought we dominated most of the match to warrant victory but it must have been hard for Aveley to play on the Monday and only have a day’s rest.

“That’s what most teams will be doing from now until the end of the season.”

Boro began a busy spell of their own of four games in seven days with a point at Witham, as they are due to host Erith & Belvedere on Thursday before Maldon visit Ship Lane on Saturday.

“The Witham game wasn’t the best of games from our point of view, but maybe we were carrying a few heavy legs from the game on the Wednesday and the pitch was awful which wasn’t kind on the legs,” added Barry.

“We could have won it if Clayton had scored the penalty, but you can’t blame that. We should have converted the chances we had, but I would have taken a point at the start of the game against a team who are very strong at home and their record proves just that.”
