We must bounce back says Barry

Captain Jack Barry says Romford cannot dwell on their FA Trophy defeat at Thurrock.

Boro slipped to a 3-1 defeat against their landlords at Ship Lane, after taking the lead through Ryan Imbert, as both sides ended the game with 10 men.

Thurrock’s Mark Onyenma was the first to see red, for two bookable offences, before Boro’s Lewis Francis was also given his marching orders.

But Barry said: “We can’t let it knock our confidence now. We’ve got to go to Ware and get a result next weekend.

“It’s always a good battle up there and I’m sure they can’t wait for us.”

Barry picked up an assist on Imbert’s goal, just before the hour, but Matt Turpin headed Fleet level and Charlie Stimson put them ahead before Leroy Griffiths netted a third in injury time.

Barry added: “It was an evenly-matched first half but we always thought we could get a goal and we got our noses in front.

“I held off a bit at a corner and it fell for me and I hit a cross-shot for Ryan, who was in the right place at the right time.

“But we got a bit complacent when it was 11 v 10 and it urged them on a bit. We tried to push on but they got a goal from a free-kick and then a scrappy goal from about six yards.

“They’re a good team. They got relegated last year but they’ve still got good players. We’re a bit gutted, though.

“I thought we deserved something from the game but it wasn’t to be.”

Barry had praise for goalscorer Imbert and strike partner Nick Reynolds, though, and is hoping they continue to link up well.

He added: “Ryan had a great debut the other week and he’s getting on well with Nick.

“Nick has done really well this season, coming back stronger and fitter, and hopefully they can kick on from here and get a few more goals.”
