A cafe manager is “in wonderment” after receiving a generous donation which will help the business get back up and running.

Jackson’s Cafe, High Street, Romford, has received a £500 cheque from the law firm Mullis & Peake LLP after an employee read about the cafe’s plight in the Recorder.

The cafe which has been feeding Romford for more than 25 years, suffered a huge amount of damage after a devastating fire back in June.

Jackson’s employs people with learning disabilities and has also helped hundreds through a two-year NVQ course teaching skills such as food preparation and working front of house.

The donation will help towards restoring the cafe with cookbooks and provide specialist training tools to help those people with limited flexibility. Head of the Court of Protection team at Mullis & Peake Samantha Hamilton said: “I was already aware of the wonderful work done at Jacksons Cafe.

“The team support Havering residents with learning disabilities to reach their true potential, but as well as providing work, there is a real family atmosphere and a sense of belonging for the trainees.

“The trainees are grateful to have the opportunity to work at Jacksons Cafe and their families appreciate how the trainees’ independence is encouraged. I hope that our donation helps the café get back to baking!”

Jackson’s manager Tracey Brennan said: “I am still in wonderment of the generosity of local businesses like Mullis & Peake, it really shows such a community spirit when something dreadful like our fire happens, the whole Jacksons team can’t thank you enough.”
