Martin welcomes back midfield maestro Abs

Romford manager Paul Martin believes Abs Seymour will bring “energy, hunger and goals” to his team, after rejoining from Brentwood late last week.

Seymour left Ryman Division One North Boro last March to join their rivals, but Martin is looking forward to utilising the midfielder’s attributes for the rest of the season.

“He’ll bring everything. Energy, hunger, goals,” said Martin.

“We’ll try keep him for next season, but obviously it’s a money game. If another team comes in for him he could go again because he can easily play at a higher level.

“If he can come in, win us a few games and score a few goals it’s job done.”

Martin admitted he’ll be looking to play the former Reading youngster in his favoured central midfield role, after Seymour spent most of his time at Brentwood playing on the left.

He added: “At Brentwood they stuck him on the left because they had problems there, but his best position is in the centre and I’ll look to use him there for us.

“I think I brought him into this level of football. It didn’t work out for him at Brentwood but we’re very happy to take him back.”

Romford saw their home match with Waltham Abbey called off on Saturday, but they are scheduled to play Sudbury on Wednesday.

And Boro boss Martin will throw Seymour straight into the action as he aims to secure a top-10 finish in the league.

“He’ll be the first name on the team sheet,” added Martin.

“We’re not fighting for anything except 10th position. We come 13th last year but 10th is the aim this season now.”

On the possibility of Wednesday’s game going ahead, after the Abbey clash fell victim to a waterlogged pitch, Martin joked: “I took a few pictures on Saturday and there was a few ducks on it!

“Hopefully if the weather holds out and the wind is strong, then we can play.

“The trouble is we don’t have anymore free weeks so it could be a case of playing Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday.”
