Martin excited by Waltham Abbey trip

Romford boss Paul Martin is hoping for more goals when his side visit Ryman One North rivals Waltham Abbey tonight (7.45pm).

Boro came out on top by the odd goal in nine on a previous trip to Capershotts and go into this evening’s clash on the back of a 5-0 success at lowly Redbridge on Saturday.

Kurt Smith opened the scoring midway through the first half at Oakside, before Tom Richardson netted from the spot and tapped in a third before half-time.

Tyler Christian-Law’s late brace completed the nap hand, which provided a notable boost for Boro.

Martin said: “It was nice to have a smile on my face on Saturday. We had played really well against Thamesmead, but lost 4-1, and I fancied us against Redbridge.

“We can go to Waltham Abbey with confidence off the back of a 5-0 win and there’s always goals there!

“They’re struggling a bit at the moment, like we were, but I expect it will be an even game and whoever turns up on the night will win.”

Michael Sammut is ruled out with a foot injury, while Paul Clayton is suspended.

But Martin could include Kieran English, who has signed from Essex Olympian League side Hutton.

He added: “Michael played through the pain barrier on Saturday. It was either him or (Mark) Lord who played, but now he is out.

“Kieran has done ok in trial games and training and is a decent-sized lad. He might get a start tonight.”
