Thousands of revellers attended a special Diamond Jubilee Romfest.

Music lovers turned out for the event on Sunday afternoon in Romford Market Place.

Leader of Havering Council, Councillor Michael White, said: “I am sure everybody had a great time at the Diamond Jubilee Romfest. The wet weather was never going to dampen our spirits!

Day to remember

“Along with all the street parties in the borough it was a day for us all to remember.”

As the Queen’s river pageant sailed down the river Thames, residents young and old enjoyed a line up that included Hope Murphy, who has appeared on the Britain’s Got Talent TV show and Chas Hodges, who has entertained a generation with his irreverent lyrics and catchy tunes.

Sixty primary school pupils had front row seats at the six hour music feast after they were chosen from schools across the borough to receive special Diamond Ticket invitations.

The celebrations also continued in the borough over the Diamond Jubilee weekend.

On Saturday 50 members of the Girlguiding Collier Row District held a tea party thanks to help from Sainsburys in the Brewery who donated 50 worth of food for the event.

In Warren Drive, Hornchurch, 400 residents marked the Queen’s 60 reign on the throne with a BBQ, a best decorated house competition, party games and live music on Tuesday.

The Recorder was given out for free over the Jubilee weekend courtesy of sponsorship by Naturally Unique beauty shop, in the Liberty Shopping Centre, Romford; and East Coast Wind music shop, based in Hornchurch Road, Hornchurch.
