The Rom Valley Way car park closed last night and will no longer be available to those visiting Queen’s Hospital.

Havering Council announced the closure of the car park, next to the former Romford Ice Rink, yesterday on its website after supermarket chain Morrisons asked for the land to be returned.

Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals Trust (BHRUT) has said it will impact patients but insisted it is looking into alternative parking.

It said: “We are extremely sorry that this means that patients and visitors will no longer be able to use this car park.

“Please be aware this will mean the multi-story car park will be busier than usual, and allow extra time for your journey.

“There are plenty of car parks in the local area – find out more in Havering’s guide to car parks.

“Please accept our apologies that we could not update you any sooner.

“We are looking into alternative parking provision.”

The site has been owned by supermarket chain Morrisons since April when a land swap was completed. The retailer had allowed the council to run a car park on it but it has now asked for the land to be returned.
