Romford striker Nick Reynolds admitted he was relieved to finally equal Danny Benstock’s goalscoring record at the club.

Reynolds found the target during Boro’s 4-1 win over Wroxham at the weekend, claiming his 67th career goal to put him joint first in the charts since the club’s reformation in 1992.

And he says he wants to claim number 68 as soon as possible, having seen an effort ruled out in Boro’s 3-2 win at VCD Athletic in midweek.

“I was relieved to have equalled the record as it has been talked about for a while now and I felt it was hanging over me a bit,” said Reynolds.

“I’m happy to have finally got a run of games and a few goals and I don’t want it to stop there. The aim is to now break the record before Christmas and push on for 20 goals in the second half of the season.

“If you actually look at how many starts I’ve had this season, I don’t think my goals tally is too bad.”

Reynolds has started 13 games for Romford this season, with 11 further appearances from the bench, and has scored seven times in total.

That leaves him second in the charts for the current campaign behind Chinedu McKenzie, who already has 20 goals to his name.

And Reynolds believes his strike partner could have a great future in the game if he maintains such prolific form.

He added: “Chin in in outrageous form at the minute and it’s a pleasure the play alongside him.

“I enjoy playing up top with him as I know he will work hard for me and I’ll do the same for him. If he carries on the way he is going I’m sure big things are around the corner for him.”

Having earned back-to-back league wins for the first time this season, to move out of the Ryman North relegation zone, Reynolds says Paul Martin’s men are hoping to complete a hat-trick of victories at Heybridge Swifts this weekend.

Boro got off to a great start in the corresponding fixture at Scraley Road last season, with Reynolds firing home a loose ball with only 34 seconds on the clock.

The hosts hit back five minutes from time to earn a point and both sides finished with 10 men after Boro’s Ade Cole and Heybridge’s George Doyle were given their marching orders.

Reynolds added: “This weekend is a big one for us as we have an 11-day break so it will be nice going into Christmas win nine points out of nine and a little bit of distance between us and the bottom three.

“I was speaking to ‘Magic’ after the VCD game and we said we always get a good game at Heybridge, so I’m expecting a tough game.

“But if we show the same fight and determination we did in against VCD I’m sure we will come away with something.”
