Churchgoers who worshipped at the Upminster Old Chapel are being asked for their memories of the building to help with its restoration.

The Old Chapel has been disused since the Plymouth Brethren stopped worshipping there in 1989. It is now being renovated for use by Sacred Heart of Mary Girls’ School, as well as being open to the public at weekends.

Staff at the school are hoping to put together information leaflets and heritage tours about the chapel and are appealing for anyone who remembers it to come forward with their recollections.

During the project, this photo of a Sunday school class surfaced. If you recognise any of the people, please get in touch with Gemma Smith, the project’s heritage officer, on 01708 222660 (extension 267) or e-mail gsmith@mary.havering.sch.uk.
