The northbound lane of Mercury Gardens in Romford has been closed by police.

The Recorder has received reports from readers that up to eight police cars have been seen at the roundabout between Mercury Gardens and Victoria Road in Romford.

The northbound lane of Mercury Gardens has been temporarily closed by police but cars are still reported to be able to turn left into Victoria Road.

There are no reports of the nature of the incident but Mark Redding, a member of staff at Kall Kwick, on Victoria Road, said the incident happened at about 3pm this afternoon.

“It has been going on nearly three hours. I don’t really know what happened.

“There is one police van and a squad car at the rear of our shop and other cars blocking the road.”

The Recorder is awaiting information from the police.
