A headteacher has expressed his “concern” after claims a child was approached by two men in a white van while on his way to school.

Mr Paul Ward, headteacher at Redden Court School in Cotswold Road, Romford, told the Recorder a Year 7 pupil had reportedly been approached by two men in a white van last week in Barnstaple Road, Harold Hill, last week.

He said: “It is a very big concern that one of our students had to go through this and I think it is for all schools throughout the borough.

“We encourage our pupils to have their phones on them when they are going to and from the school just in case they need to call anyone for help.

“We also want children to make sure they are not travelling alone but we know this is not always possible.

“Everyone should keep an eye out and be aware at all times of the people around them.”

Police have been informed of the incident.
