Mayor Brian Eagling has revealed that First Step will be his charity of the year.

The Recorder has so far raised about £20,000 as part of the Fundraise on the First campaign and will now receive support from the Mayor.

He said: “The work that First Step does is so important and without that organisation where would children with disabilities go to get support?

“We raised a lot of money for the Humpty Dumpty Foundation 15 years ago when I was Mayor and we need to aim to do that again.”

The special care baby unit at Queen’s Hospital will also be supported for the next 12 months and the Mayor hopes to raise enough money to purchase new equipment for the ward.
