Runners ran to celebrate the Raphael parkrun's 1st birthday

A running group celebrated its first birthday at the weekend with a party a the park.

Dressed in fancy dress, hundreds of members of Raphael Parkrun gathered in Raphael Park, Main Road, Romford, for a run followed by a ceremony at the park bandstand where awards were presented by Mayor of Havering Brian Eagling and wife Bunny.

Stephen Easley, event director, said: “Well what can I say - what a party we had for our first birthday parkrun.

The weather was perfect, gorgeous sunshine and very warm.

“Lots of runners donned fancy dress for the occasion and celebrated with nibbles, drinks and cake after the run.

“Thanks go to everyone who made and brought something along, with special thanks to Tracy Giddings who made our official birthday cake and cupcakes as she has done all year when we have had a special event on.

“As always they were delicious.”
