Three Rainham police officers hiked 35 miles to raise money for sick children.

Police Community Support Officers Colin Spash, 39, and Brian Sims, 54, and Sergeant Matthew Chatters, 36, have so far raised 1000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) through their efforts. The trio left Rainham at 4.15am on Friday and arrived at Southend Pier 17 hours later.

Colin, who organised the walk, said: “When a close family member got taken ill to GOSH, I felt inspired by the work they carry out there. It was only then that I realised they function on charitable donations. I wanted to help however I could.

“Every limb we have aches, but we’re so psyched about the end result. I’ve got some ideas in the pipeline for next year, but I will let the throbbing go down first.”
