Police are appealing for witnesses after a pensioner was left severely bruised following a robbery.

The incident took place at about 6.20am on January 23 in Wilfred Avenue, Rainham, as the 68-year-old woman put her key into a friend’s door.

The victim was then pushed to the ground from behind by a male suspect who stood over her as he took her handbag off her arm.

The suspect is described as a white man, around 30-years-old, stocky build, with thick black unkempt hair and a round clean-shaven face – he was wearing a black hooded jumper.

Officers from Havering are investigating the incident and are hoping anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident will come forward and speak to them.

Police would also like to speak to the people who delivered the handbag and purse back to the victim who were then able to get in contact with the 68-year-old woman.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Constable Barry Carter from Havering CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111 - please quote crime reference number: 5401113/15.
