The RSPB have announced that residents will not be charged to visit the Rainham Marshes after concerns were raised that its policy may change.
The charity had suggested it was consulting with visitors of the nature reserve over charging for entry. This caused worry amongst residents as it would backtrack on the free-entry agreement with the borough.
But today it was revealed the site will remain free for residents of Havering and Thurrock.
An RSPB spokesman said: “There will be no change in the free entry policy for local residents to our Rainham Marshes nature reserve.
“The RSPB is conducting a national review of our charging policy for nature reserves but that concerns existing charges at our 200 plus sites.”
