Insect watchers are invited to head over to Rainham Marshes to spot some of their unusual ladybird inhabitants as part of National Insect Week.

The marshes, formerly a Ministry of Defence shooting range, are now home to the hairy, orange Bryony breed, first discovered at the marshes last year, and 13 other ladybird types.

And the RSPB’s monthly guided “Insect Afternoon” walk on Saturday July 21 will bring visitors up close and personal with the best of the marshes’ bugs and creepy-crawlies. Booking is essential and places can be reserved on 01708 899840 for between 2 and 6. The tour starts at 1pm.
