Rainham: Jubilee barbecue keeps chill at bay

Residents of New Zealand Way refused to let the rain dampen their Jubilee spirits – they had a blazing barbecue to keep out the cold.

The chef of the day was Sean Phiri, who was in charge of the flames along with his wife Vim and friend Catherine Marima.

“We enjoy getting the barbecue out,” he said. “but instead of using charcoal we take anything we can burn, just to give it some body.

“We’ve had chicken, a South African sausage called boewors, pork ribs and burgers.”
