Robbers fled the scene on a motorbike after they stole cash from a newsagents and assaulted a cashier.

Police were called at 5pm on Friday after reports of a robbery at a newsagents in Fairview Avenue, Rainham.

It was reported that at 4.20pm two men wearing motorcycle helmets entered the shop and ordered the cashier to open the till - a suspected firearm was seen.

The cashier was then assaulted and the suspects stole cash from the till before making off on a motorbike in the direction of Upminster Road North.

One of the suspects is described as about 5ft 8in to 10in and of slim to medium build.

He was wearing a navy blue coloured jumper, a darker coloured body warmer, dark coloured jogging bottoms and trainers and a full face black crash helmet.

The second suspect is described as about 5ft 6in to 8in tall and of medium to large build.

He was wearing a grey coloured Adidas jumper with dark coloured stripes to the sleeves, grey matching jogging bottoms, trainers and a full face crash helmet.

Officers from the Flying Squad are investigating.

No arrests have been made.
