A Brentwood man has been detained under the Mental Health Act this morning after being found walking on railway tracks.

The British Transport Police (BTP) was called to Seven Kings station to reports of a trespasser at about 8.35am.

Together with officers from the Metropolitan Police, the trespasser, aged 30, was detained and taken by the London Ambulance Service to “a place of safety”.

A BTP spokeswoman said: “Officers were clear of the track by 8.45am.”

There were delays between Shenfield and Liverpool Street after speed restrictions were imposed on trains on the line as a result of the incident.

A National Express East Anglia spokesman said services returned to normal at 11.30am.
