A power cut has struck South Street, in Romford, forcing businesses to close their doors and, according to a witness, a salon’s customers with half finished haircuts.
The lights went off in the busy town centre at about 11am causing complete blackouts in some of the shops.
Barclay’s bank has had to close its doors until power resumes along with other shops.
Lorraine Moss, who works on South Street, said: “Quite a few shops are affected. In one salon there are women sitting there with their hair half done.”
A spokesman for electricity cable maintenance UK Power Networks apologised for the outage.
She said: “We are sorry for any inconvenience this is causing.
“At 11.15am today we received the first of two calls reporting a power interruption in the South Street area of Romford.
“UK Power Networks engineers are working to restore power supplies as quickly as possible.”
