The Havering Visitor Centre will close its doors for good on Friday.

The facility, based in the town centre in South Street, Romford, was opened ahead of the London Olympics in 2012 to give help and information to the thousands of visitors to the borough during the games.

But Havering Council is now closing the centre, which it said was no longer needed now the Olympics have passed.

Cllr Robert Benham, cabinet member for environment, said: “Staff at the centre have done a wonderful job assisting visitors to Romford town centre over the last few years and I’d like to thank them for all their hard work.

“It was a great way during the Olympics to ensure visitors to Havering had the best experience possible, and it served its purpose well.”

The council stressed residents and visitors would still be able to find out information from the borough’s libraries, and on the council’s website havering.gov.uk.
