Romford’s MP has welcomed the news that England and Scotland will remain united, referring to the results of yesterday’s election as a “fantastic result”.

The no campaign was triumphant with 55 cent of Scottish voters rejecting independence.

Speaking to BBC Radio Four’s Today programme this morning, Andrew Rosindell, said: “I think it’s a fantastic result for Britain. The UK stays together, the challenge now is of course to work out where we go from here.

“Politics I think has changed forever and we need to respond to that.”

Mr Rosindell said that Great Britain and the 21 territories under its jurisdiction should be involved the devolution process.

He said: “It’s no good looking at Scotland in isolation we have to look at England, Wales, Northern Ireland and indeed the 21 territories and dependencies that are British as well.

“If we go and change something everyone should have a say.”

Mr Rosindell added that he would support the recalling of parliament to discuss what should happen in the aftermath of the vote and stressed the importance of a well thought out response.

He said: “If we rush into something and don’t consider all the long-term implications I fear that by putting a sticking plaster over something, you may finish up with another Scottish referendum in a few years’ time, and that’s something we want to avoid.

“We need a permanent solution, a new settlement for the whole of the British family.”
