Romford MP Andrew Rosindell has backed Havering Council's Conservatives to fulfil their election pledge to "keep Havering special" after the group was once again named the largest group in town hall.

Though the Conservatives, led by Cllr Roger Ramsey who was re-elected in Emerson Park, won three more seats to take their total number up to 25, they fell just short of the 28 required to assume overall control.

Mr Rosindell told the Recorder: “The reality is that the 21 councillors who stood in my constituency all won their seats despite intense opposition from the Labour Party.

“We’ve done fantastically well.

“Obviously we’ve not got an overall majority but I am confident that there are people representing other parties on the council who we can work with and we will now do our very best to represent the interests of the people of Havering.

“The important thing is that we campaigned this year on our pledge to ‘Keep Havering Special’ and clearly that has resonated with the people of Havering and now we are in a position to make sure we keep that promise.”
