Part of a Hornchurch street was closed briefly last night (Wednesday, April 18) after police and the London Fire Brigade were called to reports of a suspicious package.

A Metropolitan Police Service spokesman confirmed officers were called to Park Lane at 9.20pm to reports of a suspicious package that had been left in the road.

Residents and drivers were briefly asked to use different routes or to park up outside the police cordon and walk to their homes.

The package was eventually declared non-suspicious and the road re-opened.
