Police are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist was injured in a hit and run in Rainham late on Monday night.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed officers were called at around 11.20pm to reports of a collision between a cyclist and a car in Cherry Tree Lane last night.
Officers discovered a 20-year-old man with head injuries at the scene and the driver of the vehicle had not stopped.
The cyclist was taken to an east London hospital but his injuries are not believed to be serious.
The road was closed briefly while the crime scene was analysed.
A short time later officers discovered a BMW found abandoned nearby which has been recovered as part of the investigation.
A 27-year-old man self presented at an east London police station in connection with the collision in the early hours of Tuesday.
He was interviewed under caution.
There have been no arrests and inquiries continue.
