Plans which proposed demolishing a school and replacing it with four houses and six flats has been rejected by Havering Council today (Monday).
The application to replace Raphael School in Park Lane, Hornchurch, was submitted in May and has seen some objections by residents.
Ultimately it was refused as the proposals would “decrease the quantity of primary and secondary school places in the borough”, it would negatively affect surrounding houses and the development would not fit in with the existing street scene.
The Recorder has been unable to contact the school, which appears to be opening for a new term next week despite the threat of demolition, for a comment on the plans.
Raphael School, which costs between £1915 and £2760 per term, was the top school for GCSE results in Havering last year with 100 per cent of students achieving grade A* to C passes including English and maths.
