It wasn’t exactly the Italian Job but police are hunting three brazen thieves who hid in a Romford cinema until after it had closed - to steal sackfuls of sweets.

The trio emerged from their hiding places at the Vue Cinema, in the Brewery shopping centre, at around 2.30am and escaped with three clear bags loaded with confectionary, before escaping through an emergency exit.

Police have this week released images of three men they would like to speak to following the incident on Thursday, June 6.

A spokesman for Vue said: “Following the burglary incident at Vue Romford in June, we have been working closely with Havering Police to identify the culprits and we hope that the release of these new images will help catch those responsible.”

Anyone with information should call Havering Police Wanted Offender Unit on 01708 779215 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

There were 80 reported incidents of shoplifting and theft in Romford town centre in that month, the Met’s crime map shows.

The Recorder and Havering Police publish wanted men and women on a regular basis, as well as updates.
