This unusual vehicle was built in 1989 to promote the merge of London Transport’s Travelcard with the more expensive Capitalcard season ticket.

The combined London bus, Tube train and British Rail train, or “Supercar”, was spotted on Sunday at the junction of South End Road and Blacksmiths Lane in South Hornchurch.

Monica Hayward, who took this photograph and emailed it to the Recorder, said the vehicle had “attracted a few strange looks”.

The ‘supercar’, which was on its way to Damyns Hall airfield, is used these days to promote the Epping Ongar Railway at heritage events.
