Urchins off to Kent; Boro chase Foxes

Ryman Premier Division

Margate v Hornchurch

Two points separate these two sides after the weekend’s action.

Urchins had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Wealdstone, after taking the lead through Lewis Smith, and currently occupy eighth place on 13 points.

Meanwhile, Margate lost 2-1 at home to Tooting and sit in 12th place with 11 points to their name.

Last season’s corresponding fixture ended in a 2-2 draw, with Kieron St Amie and Martin Tuohy on target for Urchins.

A last-minute goal from captain Elliot Styles had clinched a 2-1 FA Trophy win for Hornchurch on an earlier trip to Kent earlier in the season and Jimmy McFarlane’s men would no doubt settle for the same again tonight.

Ryman Division 1N

Romford v Ilford

Boro will have taken heart from their 1-1 draw with in-form Needham Market as they prepare to host basement boys Ilford.

Ilford slumped to the bottom of the table on Saturday after losing 2-1 at fellow strugglers Ware.

A last-minute penalty from Ben Turner rescued Romford in last season’s meeting, which ended in a 3-3 draw.

Turner had netted from the spot in the first half, but the Foxes led 3-1 after an hour before a diving header from Abs Seymour gave Boro hope.

A foul on Matt Toms – who has recently returned to Mill Field – saw Boro awarded another penalty right on the 90-minute mark and Turner kept his cool to convert and ensure the spoils were shared.
