Havering council house tenants have been assured they won’t see any change in services after the company responsible for maintaining and repairing their homes was bought by a national firm.

Social housing repair group Mears Plc announced it had bought Morrison Facilities Services for 24m last week.

Mears’s chief exec David Miles said: “This is an exciting acquisition and we look forward to welcoming Morrison staff to the Mears family. I am confident this will bring benefits for clients, tenants and staff.”

In a statement, Havering Council said: “The contract in place is not affected by the purchase of Morrison by Mears Group. Morrison’s current contract obligations will continue and its senior management have confirmed this to be the case. We do not expect any changes to the services provided to residents.”
