Last week, Havering’s youngsters came out in full force to mark National Apprenticeship Week.

Events held across the borough to mark the occasion included an awards ceremony at Havering Town Hall, a Dragon's Den style event at Romford's Premiere Cinema and a pop-up shop in the Mercury Mall.

A parent-learner event was also held at Marshalls Park Academy and attracted more than 500 pupils and parents, giving them the opportunity to meet training providers, apprenticeship ambassadors and local employers.

Councillor Robert Benham, the borough's cabinet member for education, said: "Apprenticeship Week provided the perfect opportunity to showcase some of the great opportunities available to young people and what they cany aspire to be, from working in business to running your own business.

"Apprenticeships are open to everyone and are no longer restricted to your age, which has meant that anyone of any age can still fulfil their potential in a range of jobs, while gaining a professional qualification."
