The council’s current leisure centre operator has been appointed to oversee and manage the borough’s leisure facilities for a further 20 years.

Everyone Active will be providing a wide range of facilities including a new sports centre in Hornchurch, subject to planning permission.

Designs include a new diving and learner pool with an adjustable floor to change the water depth.

The company will also be taking on the management of the new Broxhill Sports Park in Broxhill Road, Harold Hill.

Improvements and extensions at Central Park Leisure Centre in Gooshays Drive, Harold Hill, and Romford Leisure Centre in Western Road are also included in the plans unveiled by Havering Council.

This borough-wide renovation is aiming to generate savings of £11m which will be “reinvested in other crucial frontline services”.

Cllr Melvin Wallace, cabinet member for Culture and Community Engagement, said: “We are committed to improving the health and wellbeing of our communities and we are delivering this by investing in sporting and leisure facilities across the borough.

“The new up-to-date facilities will make sure residents have the best service when attending sport centres.

“The renovation will also generate a great income for the council which can be used to improve and maintain other frontline services.
