Motorcyclist, early 40s, killed in hit-and-run crash near Gallows Corner

A motorcyclist was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Friday evening (November 9) near Gallows Corner.

The man, who was in his early 40s, has yet to be formally identified.

The collision, which involved two motorbikes and a car, took place on the A12 near the busy junction just before 5pm. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and ambulance crews treated the rider of the second motorcycle, also a man, for minor injuries.

A Met Police spokesman said both motorbikes were in collision with a silver Renault Laguna estate. Police are searching for its driver, who did not stop and drove off toward Essex.

The car’s rear windscreen was shattered in the collisions.

Police also want to speak to a third motorcyclist, who was not involved in the crash but is believed to have given chase.

Nearby roads were closed after the incident, causing traffic jams into the night.Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information that may assist police should call officers at Chadwell Heath Road Death Investigation Unit on 020 8597 4874.
